Blog Post #1: Where Do I Find My News?

I have always loved reading about current events. In today's world, it is so so so important for everyone to stay caught up with the news and to continue to educate themselves on the issues going on in the world. I am on my phone... a lot. I see most of my news on my phone, but I still see the news, I am still keeping up to date, and I am continuing to educate myself on issues in the world today.

Whenever I am on Twitter, I always check out the explore page. Twitter's trending hashtags always give me a generic idea of whats going on. I love seeing news on Twitter because I can see what other people think about it easily. If I want to see what people are tweeting about a current news event, it is very easy for me to search the word and find tweets relating to it. Twitter is always my baseline for news.

Like Twitter, I am always on Instagram. I find my news on Instagram from political and activist accounts that I follow. I also love being able to see the comments and reactions to current events easily. I am always quick to spread awareness to issues going on in the world, in hopes of informing some of my friends that may not know what is going on. Like Twitter, Instagram is a a baseline for news.

I am on TikTok the most out of all of these sources. Surprisingly, my feed does contain a lot of news. As someone who has trouble watching long news segments, the 15-60 second videos keep my interest and allow me to search for more information. I am aware that I am on the liberal side of TikTok and that the news I find on there could be biased, but I always search for more information after watching a news video.

Sometimes while on Snapchat I come across news on some account's stories. These stories are mostly from editorial accounts such as Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan, and Vogue. While most of the news I find on here has to do with celebrities and the entertainment industry, I still find it useful as that is the line of work I want to go into.

After hearing vaguely of a news event I always end up googling it. There are so many news sources that pop up, but I always (without fail) choose The New York Times. I find the articles are really informative yet easy to comprehend. While some articles feature sprinkled in bits of personal opinion I find it informative and not overbearing in a way that is meant to change your own opinion.
